A Quick Walk at Dusk

Mute swan light by setting sun - A Quick Walk at Dusk
A Quick Walk at Dusk

Since the death of my step-dad we now have my mum living with us. What this means (apart from a cramped house till we find somewhere bigger) is a dog living with us now. Unfortunately he is an old boy in dogs terms (12/13 I think) so can’t walk to far but every so often a stroll around the lake is OK. This evening I took him out for a twilight stroll, one of my first walks around the lake at dusk, and it was quite pleasant (not the weather, it was windy and wet).

As the sun set I managed to add a few species to the year list. Nothing exciting; a lone Jackdaw as I left the house; a single fly over Redwing; and (again alone) a Grey Heron fishing in the margins. Other highlights were plenty of black birds, including a flock of about 7 coming in to roost, two Mute Swans looking fantastic as the setting sun turned their white feathers gold and red.

I tried to capture the sunset, but rain on the lens left the rest of the image unusable, but the cloud is stunning.

Anyway just a quick update, I’m hoping for a decent walk tomorrow, and hopefully some nice new species for the year (I’m already behind in my patch competition) and with any luck some nice photo opportunities (I plan on taking the big lens out!!).
