Poweradd Pilot 2GS 10000mAh Charger – Review

As a birder/walker/outdoors loving type of person, and more importantly type of family, we like to spend long days outside in the open air, and with that comes a number of activities that use up mobile phone batteries, in some cases, Pokemon Go and my sons phone especially, that means a dead phone in just a few hours. Not good when you are searching for Geocaches.

Poweradd Pilot 2GS 10000mAh Charger – Review

Earlier in the year we bought a Poweradd Pilot 2GS 10000mAh Charger to try and resolve this issue. I should say we also own a couple of other small power bars, but this one is designed to charge a couple of phones at once (there are dual USB ports), and charge them a couple of times, hence the 10000 mAh rating.

I’m not a technical whizz, I can just about get my head round how electricity works, although I’m pretty sure it is magic! So I can’t tell you the intricate details of if it is actually as powerful as it states; or if the power leakage is extreme (yeah I know who’d have thought power could leak, where does it go? will I end up with a puddle of electricity??), but I can tell you how we have found it, a real world review so to speak.

Real World Performance

So far tests are positive (and by tests I mean actual use). These things can fully charge an iPhone SE and and iPhone 5C and still have enough to give both a top up (and some). If you use one of the lightening charge cables and the USB 2 point it charges the phone really quickly.

The only drawback we have found so far is it does take a while to charge, the specs on Amazon state 6 hours, but I imagine that depends on plugs used etc. Generally if fully depleted, we leave it to charge overnight (a good 12 hours) and it is usually done by then.

The truth is we liked it so much we just bought a second (4+ phones to charge). so now we have no excuse to run out of battery on a walk and we can always be ready to Geocache (although it won’t help us actually find them), Pokemon hunt or capture a special moment.

UPDATE 2018

Our two power banks are still going strong. We use them for camping and everyday use as well. Throwing one in the bag when I go for a long hike, or when we have a day out planned is easy. And it means that I always have access to my O/S Maps App. And the kids can keep playing games. Oh and at the birdfair each year it is great to be able to have a backup for our evening camping.
