Geocaching in Campbell Park

After last weekends successful geocaching the Cosgrove canal, we decided to spend another Sunday in similar pursuit, this time Geocaching in Campbell Park, Milton Keynes, today’s hunt was slightly more difficult though as the majority of the caches are multi-caches that require a lot more thought than simply following the GPS and hunting the undergrowth.
I must write (or get Zoe to write) an advanced geocaching tutorial, explaining the other types of cache in detail (look out for that soon).

Geocaching in Campbell Park

After an unhealthy (MacDonalds) bite to eat, and a few photos of Starlings in the outdoors square of CMK Shopping centre (I’ve lived in Milton Keynes for over 30 years, and I have no idea what it is called?) we headed up to Campbell park to start our Geocaching exploits.

Starting at the Campbell Park Rose (the really interestingly designed war memorial) we cracked on with the first cache of the day, a puzzling test of our ability to first find clues hidden on the various posts, and then do some maths. Thankfully Tubs is a bit of a maths geek, he is quick as a tack and it is a subject he excels at, so while I used my phones calculator, he beat me to the punch on a number of sums!

Puzzle Caches

Once we had figured out all the maths, we had our new co-ordinates, the location of the actual cache, and so we programmed it into the Geocaching app and headed off through the bushes in search of a small plastic box (it really is a crazy, but fun, hobby). The only issue was a rather large Brown Rat that ran down the same hedge we were hunting in (My one animal I really can’t stand!).

Cache two was another puzzle, this one a series of clues dotted around the top of the park, each clue giving us another number for our list (a notebook was very much needed for today’s geocaching), again plenty of running around ensued and we soon had all the numbers clues we needed, only one giving us a a real issue, the prickly bushes having grown a little recently).
Once done, some more number crunching and we were off on a long walk away from our current location. The actual cache location being some distance from the actual park. Kicking through fallen deep chestnut conkers, many still in their spiky shells, and wind blown apples we eventually located the small plastic box signed the slip and headed back to the park.

Meeting Friends

We met up with our friends for a bit of Pokemon hunting (Campbell park is great for Charmander at the moment) and a walk around the park before heading home. Not quite the numbers of caches or kilometres covered as last weekend but it was still great fun.

It's good fun for all the family. And yes it can be a lovely park, was a LOT of people there today but all around the top and bottom, not the middle thankfully.

It looks like you chose a lovely area for your geocaching adventure. Well done to your maths genius on the sums and your daughter is indeed stunning. I've failed to inspire my kids with Geocaching but they have got into Pokamon Go, frankly anything that gets them up and outdoors is good.

thank you for sharing your lovely day out at #CountryKids

That's a shame they haven't got into Geocaching but like you say Pokemon Go works wonders to get kids outside enjoying the fresh air 🙂

I feel such a fail as we're an outdoorsy family and yet to do geocaching. It looks immense fun and you get to discover some beautiful countryside.

Great pictures! We love geocaching, has taken us to some amazing locations that we would have overlooked. So much better now I have the phone app and we can fill an hour with it when needed!

Geocaching is definitely on my list for things to introduce Finn to when he's a little older, I look forward to your tutorial post 😉 It often occurs to me that I should have a look round the parks in MK sometime, they always look impressive yet I never think to go anywhere else other than the shopping centre!

With Campbell park just over a bridge from the shopping centre you should 🙂 it's quite a pretty place all through the year.
